Outdoor Living Sanctuary: A Source of Comfort

July 30, 2009

When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
Miss me a little - but not too long
Why cry for a soul set free.

My mother lived a wonderful life, but way too short, she passed away very unexectedly four days ago. I carry a part of my mom within me that will help me get through this tough time and the years to come. On Tuesday we held a celebration of her life in a beautiful southwestern chapel with an outdoor patio. The patio had a special meaning to me, for being in the casual furniture industry it represented eveyday life, normalcy and outdoor living. On a day when I was mourning the loss of a parent, I was also thinking about how much my mother would have loved the furniture on the patio for a social event.

These past few days have been surreal, but I have found solice and comfort whenever I am outside among nature, under the big blue sky, where life is very present. I know in the coming days, weeks, months and years I will find myself going outdoors whenever I want to be close to my mom. An outdoor living sanctuary is the very best source of comfort that I can think of. I look forward to getting home to my own outdoor oasis, so that I can gain strength from all of the living things that surround my outdoor space like the flowers, plants, the air, the sun and all of the little critters.

Addng comfortable casual furniture and colorful fabrics that signify life are ever so important in our daily lives, even if your troubles are small, these things will provide a place for you to feel good. My mom is at peace now and I will be strong and happy and live life to the fullest because I know that is what she would want me to do. I will try to continue to make her proud of me, as proud as I am to call her My Mom.

Live life, be happy, take care of yourselves and hold your loved ones close to tell them how much you care.

These are my outside views…Marcia Blake

I think a common teahrd that links all of us here at WOW, aside from writing and boats, is a tendency to spin too many plates and spread ourselves thin as we all strive for our many goals. Then again, if I had to chose between this life and one where my greatest ambition was to catch the latest episode of some sitcom so I could talk about it over the water-cooler the next day, I'll stick with my sleep and TV deprived existence. Let me be the first (due to being up at this hour) to wish you all the best luck with this and all your dreams.

Marcia, Mere words cannot express my thoughts for you and your family. My mother passed on in my arms last August just a week after losing my best friend and business partner of 31 years. It seems like yesterday. I spend much of my time considering life beyond this earthly dimension and look forward to one day being united with my loved ones that have left too soon. Until then I hold fast to the love we exchanged while together and the love and navigation Christ has for us in this phase of our journey. Here is to our amazing, wonderful, and faithful mothers. Richard

Marcia, I'm sorry to hear of your loss. My father passed away quickly in October of last year. It has made me appreciate life and the time I have with my family and friends that much more.
