Change is Coming!

January 19, 2009

Tomorrow we will all witness history when Barach Obama is sworn into the office of President of the United States of America. This begins the cycle of change. I believe that we are all anxiously awaiting the first signs of change. While Barach warns us that we are facing very difficult challenges, he is providing us hope and a promise of a new beginning.

It is so important to work together to rebuild this great nation. We must try to stay positive and work towards the goals that we have set out for ourselves. Working together helps us in more ways than trying to forge ahead alone. I am warmed by the knowledge that in the casual furniture industry, manufacturers are working to support their dealers. A seasoned rep informed me that most manufacturers have suspended their Early Buy requirements and have not altered dealer’s discounts from last season. One manufacturer recently announced a roll back of pricing to 2008 levels even though they have been faced with rising prices on raw materials. Another way that some manufacturers are preparing to help the dealers this season is by building and stock piling inventory so they will be able to react quickly to the dealers needs when the economy begins to make the change that we are all hoping for.

Staying positive always helps in dire situations. Look at the glass half full rather than half empty. See how you can work together with your industry partners, neighborhood business partners and your sales staff. Barach Obama is asking us to volunteer as grass roots leaders and ordinary citizens to Organize for America. He is hopeful that as we come together we will be part of the solution to this economic crisis. As part of this movement, I suggest that we in the Casual Furniture Industry organize together to help one another. Sharing products with local competitive dealers  in the past might not have been a consideration, but in these unusual times working together may help all of us create the change that we all so desperately seek.

I want to begin a grass roots organization in the Casual Furniture industry by volunteering my time and experience to help improve your business with a collective sharing of ideas and best practices. Simply email me and let me know how I can assist you in creative design and innovative merchandising solutions as well as suggestions on how to partner with manufacturers and local businesses to create change and begin to improve the difficult challenges that we are all facing today.

Let’s work together in the best possible way to promote positive change and look to the future and a better world.
