TAMPA, Fla. – Ryan Hughes Design Build won two awards from The Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) during a ceremony held last month at the International Pool Spa Patio Expo in Las Vegas.
The Engineering and Technical Achievement Award acknowledged the team’s creativity and quality workmanship. The APSP International Award for Excellence, which recognizes the most beautiful and creative installations of pools, spas, hot tubs and water features, was awarded for the company’s Amarula Sun project.
The project encompassed 10,000 square feet of outdoor space designed and constructed for a Florida homeowner. Located just 15 feet off the Gulf of Mexico, this waterfront outdoor design encompassed four pool levels, multiple architectural structures and numerous technically and artistically sophisticated elements. As a multi-million-dollar, year-long project, Amarula Sun was one of the most complex ever undertaken by the award-winning pool contractor.
“We are proud to receive this award, as it recognizes the technical expertise and hard work of our entire team,” says Ryan Hughes, president/creative director, Ryan Hughes Design Build. “Within this project, one of the biggest challenges involved the required infrastructure and underground utility accommodation. Miles of conduit was laid prior to any cement work to insure proper accommodation for lighting to pool filtration.”
Within the design of the pools, the water looks to be gently moving over surfaces working in one direction. “The appearance of still and slow-moving water is deceiving as a closer look at the hydraulics plan shows six pumps moving the water at an enormous speed,” Hughes says.
